IDC 4O - w3schools
w3schools
A fantastic online tool for learning HTML and other programming languages, w3School will allow you to enter in code on the screen and see the results side-by-side.
A list of lessons to choose from is shown on the left column. Concepts are explained and an example is given, with a detailed explanation of each line given at the bottom. The best part of this is the Try it Yourself button... |
The Try It Yourself button will bring you to a new page that has 2 columns. The left column is where you can enter in the HTML code. The right column will display the code as it will appear inside of a browser. To update it to reflect the changes that you put into the HTML column, you just have to hit the RUN button.

Exercises - to be completed November 17th while Mr. Frey is away...
For each exercise below, crop a screen shot that shows your HTML code on the left and the result on the right. When you are done, submit all images on showbie.
1. Open up the Introductory HTML page and add in your first NAME where the page title is.
2. Open up the Headings HTML page and add the following with different sizes: course code, course name, my name, your first name.
3. Open up the Formatting page. You are already familiar with bold and italics. Make the first two lines both in bold AND italics at the same time. Add your first name into any other formatting type that is not bold/italics.
4. Open up the Comments page and add a comment at the top to indicate my name and the course name.
5. Open up the Colours page. Make your first name in a large font with one colour, and any teachers name in a smaller font with a different colour.
6. Open up the Tables page. Create a table that has two headings (Name & Phone). List 3 new fictional people with phone numbers.
Bring it all together by creating a new HTML file in notepad that will demonstrate an understanding of all tags covered to this point. You may copy and paste tags from your previous work...
If you have time, read through the images page. It will not be possible for you to do much with it as-is, but we will go over it together when I get back.
- Start with the tags found in the introductory example
- Add your first name into a comment at the top
- Add the course name in a large red font
- Add the date in a small blue font
- Add a table that lists 10 tags that you have learned and briefly explains what they do
If you have time, read through the images page. It will not be possible for you to do much with it as-is, but we will go over it together when I get back.
