First Person vs Birds Eye
Converting Birds Eye to First Person
A first-person game in 3D needs to hold the same coordinate information that a 2D birds-eye game containes, but it also needs to keep track of additional information. A traditional Pacman game does not need to keep track of the direction it is facing, but just like in Asteroids, a first-person game does.
The 2D maze on the left shows the yellow character pointing upwards surrounded by 5 walls in the hallway.
We can represent this same 3D hallway view as shown on the right. Of course, the Microbit is not capable of displaying different colours. The colours are just used to show how the 2D walls correspond with the 3D walls. |
